The best thing about teaching the PHTA CPO courses…

is seeing how the training really does benefit the individual – and the business they represent.

Certified Pool and Spa Operators

A CPO Operator is trained to maintain installations from a hot tub spa to a full-size water park and is competent in the basic first aid procedures.

Raising Standards Worldwide

We work closely with pool industry specialists, worldwide’ and notably with the PHTA in raising swimming pool health and safety standards.

Incredible Support available 24/7

As one of the 10 members of the CPO advisory board, I work closely with the other members and the PHTA to continue to develop training courses that WORK

Who am I?

My Name is Tony Bell; I have been an instructor with the NSPF (now the PHTA) for over 15 years. Recently, I have been invited to become a member of the CPO advisory board, helping improve the whole learning process for both fellow instructors and students alike.

My advantage is I also own a large Pool and Spa Maintenance company, “The Pool People Ltd “, which maintain over 250 facilities in Cyprus. We maintain, repair, replace, design and build pools. So my extended knowledge of swimming pools is not only from teaching you the theory but also from helping you understand better the operation of a swimming pool. So, when required, I can give you all the advice you need.

It’s a funny thing, advice.

I can only advise and share my experience. It’s up to the person to put it into operation. That is why I offer ongoing mentoring support after the course has finished.

Training is an exciting concept! Training people to better understand how to do anything isn’t easy. And, where that training concerns teaching people how to clean swimming pool water properly, it can be really challenging. The key is to teach them how to clean swimming pool water properly! … And that bit is easy!

Because dirty pool water can make swimmers very ill – or worse – and no one wants that on their conscience. I didn’t realize when I came into the serious business of aquatic care almost two decades ago!

Years of hands-on experience means that I learned how to clean pool water correctly.

Over 15 years ago, I travelled to America to attend the NSPF (National Swimming Pool Foundation) CPO course at the NSPF school in Dallas. Since then, I have not stopped learning more and more about swimming pools and clean water.

As a qualified PHTA Instructor (PHTA merged with the NSPF and continue their excellent work), I travel Europe teaching the CPO course. Likewise, ensuring my own staff in our pool business is fully qualified and understand both the responsibilities and their liabilities.

Basically, Walking and teaching, my talk!

As one of the 10 members of the CPO advisory board, I work closely with the other members and the PHTA to continue to develop training courses that WORK.

We make sure that the content of those courses reflects the operator’s needs on the ground. Currently, we are re-writing the CPO manual to ensure both the students and fellow CPO instructors get the correct message and teachings required.

To me, teaching is personal!

The best thing about teaching the PHTA CPO courses is seeing how the training really does benefit the individual – and the business they represent.

Seeing the “light bulb” moment, when the training makes sense and previously held questions or worries fade.

People feel better; their work makes more sense, and getting the right results, is so much easier! There’s a better use of time, cleaner swimming pools, less chemical wastage, and happier employees and bosses! As an instructor, I feel incredibly privileged to have been part of the whole process. My door is always open to any past pupil that has a question about their work.

Remember: “There is a fine line between Law and Liability.”

But if you remember your training and put into practice your newfound knowledge and take care, you will be as safe as your swimmers.

Looking forward to jumping in at the deep end with you!
